ICON: A Sustainable Innovation in Bathroom Design

Bathco Design Team's Award-Winning Washbasin Combines Sustainability and Aesthetics

ICON, a unique washbasin design by Bathco Design Team, marries sustainability and aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the Earth and utilizing innovative materials. This design, a winner of the prestigious A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2017, showcases the potential of sustainable design in everyday life.

The inspiration for ICON came from the Earth - both as a spatial element and a natural resource. The design team sought to create a product that would evoke emotions and reflect the various influences that shape our planet, from meteorological factors to human intervention. The result is a washbasin that is not only functional but also a testament to the beauty and resilience of nature.

What sets ICON apart from other designs is its unique use of materials. The furniture element of the design is made from acacia wood, known for its high resistance to temperature changes, humidity, pressure, and water. The wood is sourced sustainably, earning the design an FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certificate. The washbasin itself is made from a new synthetic polymer developed from coal fly ash and natural clay. This innovative material boasts properties similar to cement, but with an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions and energy consumption.

The realization of ICON involved cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices. The acacia wood was cut and extracted following sustainability parameters, while the washbasin was made from a new material synthesized at temperatures below 100 °C. This process resulted in a product that is not only environmentally friendly but also highly resistant to heat, cold, and chemical damage.

ICON is a minimalist and functional design, with a metal tubing frame that holds the base supporting the washbasin. The round washbasin, made from an innovative and sustainable material, is both aesthetically pleasing and recyclable. The design's measurements are 94x45x45 centimetres, and it weighs 31.9 kilograms.

In conclusion, ICON is a testament to the potential of sustainable design. Its innovative use of materials and commitment to sustainability have earned it a Silver A' Design Award, marking it as a top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable design. It is a perfect example of how design can be both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible.
